Redevelopment of Merthyr Tydfil Combined Court Centre

The offices at Merthyr Tydfil Crown, County and Magistrates' Court have been closed since August 2007 to allow for substantial building works to be carried out.   The works are continuing and it's expected the contractors will hand over the building on 28th September. The re-opening of the Merthyr Tydfil Combined Court Centre for court business will be 3rd November 2008. Listing for county court cases will commence at Merthyr later in the year and listing for magistrates' court cases will be announced. Until then;

County Court

Correspondence should continue to be addressed to Merthyr Tydfil County Court, The Law Courts, Glebeland Place, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8BH. DX number 99582 Merthyr Tydfil 2.  All mail will be redirected.

Merthyr Tydfil County Court can be contacted by telephone on either 01443 490808 or 01685 358200.  The Fax number 01685 359727 remains unchanged.

All hearings will take place at Pontypridd County Court, The Courthouse, Courthouse Street, Pontypridd, CF37 1JR

Counter queries will be dealt with at Pontypridd County Court by Merthyr Tydfil County Court staff.

Crown Court

All Crown Court work will be dealt with from Cardiff Crown Court at the following address;

Magistrates' Court

All magistrates' court work will be dealt with from Aberdare and Pontypridd Magistrates' at the following addresses;

Normal business will resume at Merthyr Tydfil Combined Courts on a date to be confirmed, early October is likely.

New Arrangements For Governance, Resourcing And Operation Of Courts Published Today

 

A new Framework Document  has been published and a statement made to Parliament putting into effect the partnership agreed earlier this year between the Lord Chancellor and the Lord Chief Justice.

A new HMCS Board has been appointed under the chairmanship of Sir Duncan Nichol CBE.
